Labor Day Weekend at the Farm

WHEW!  This has been one busy week!  I have been taking LOTS of pictures but I am way behind in updating our blog !  Nathan was out of town so much last week and we kept busy with playdates and family visits.  It had been too long since we went to visit my grandparents, Mamaw and Papaw at the farm so the girls and I went down on Saturday for the day.  They loved looking at the tractors and playing in Aunt Tina's garden.  They had a blast!

Nathan had to work on Sunday, but thankfully he was off on Labor Day so we spent the day just hanging out as a family.  Those days are seriously the best.  We took the girls to Fort D, a local historic site.  Fort D was constructed in 1861.  You can read more about it HERE.  They had a re-enactment on Labor Day and fired the canon.  The girls were a little startled, but it made for an interesting discussion later on!  We won't be studying American History until much later in the year but it was so neat to visit Fort D on a special day and create a visual learning experience for our girls (especially Olivia, since she will be learning about the Civil War in months to come).  Olivia didn't quite grasp the concept of Labor Day.  She thought it was NEIGHBOR DAY.  :)  She insisted on making something for our neighbors so she set to work creating a picture for our neighbor's brand new grandson, Max.  We have been studying Egypt, so fittingly she chose to draw a picture of Moses being set into the Nile by his mother.  We chose a bible verse to go along with her picture and framed it for our neighbors.  She took it over to Baby Max this evening and even though he slept though her visit, she was still very pleased.

This weekend is the babies' big party at the park.  I am so glad we decided to have the party there instead of at our house.  I think it will make it so much more relaxing for everyone hosting it in a park atmosphere.  Who doesn't love the park?!

We have our very first field trip this Friday with our homeschooling group, Home Grown Kids.  We will be visiting a local nursing home to deliver colored pictures and handmade crafts.  The kids will be singing a few songs and a mom from our group will be playing the piano.  I always loved visiting the nursing home as a child and I know Olivia will, too.  I will keep you updated on all of the exciting things we have planned over the next few weeks!  Thanks for staying updated with our family.

Love, Maegan
